William Lundigan’s CLIMAX! opened its second season in September 1955 with this easily available adaptation of Mark Twain’s “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” At a mere 50 minutes, this poverty stricken TV version would hold little entertainment value for today’s youngsters, shot in black and white, with the mighty Mississippi represented by a stagnant studio tank.To appease censors of the time, the African-American slave Jim, who is such an important character in the original novel, is completely omitted from this adaptation, along with all mention of the slavery issue, and Injun Joe, who dies in “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and does not appear at all in the novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”, appears in this adaptation.
